Nigeria-China Food Festival Celebrates Culinary Heritage

The National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), in collaboration with the China Cultural Centre in Nigeria, organized the 2026 Nigeria–China Food Festival in Abuja. The event, themed ‘From Farm to Feast,’ celebrated 55 years of diplomatic relations between Nigeria and China.

It featured over 200 participants, including hospitality professionals, chefs, government officials, and cultural practitioners. Guests enjoyed 14 Chinese dishes from seven regions of China and 12 Nigerian dishes from the country’s six geopolitical zones, showcasing the diversity of both nations' food traditions.

Abisoye Fagade, the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of NIHOTOUR, emphasized the importance of promoting Nigerian food as part of the tourism sector and highlighted the various stakeholders involved in the food supply chain. Zhou Hongyou, the Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, and Yang Jianxing, the Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy, also attended, underscoring the significance of cultural exchange in strengthening Nigeria-China relations.
