Nigeria Offers Condolences to Qatar on Amir's Passing

On July 12, 2026, the Government of Nigeria expressed deep condolences on the passing of His Highness The Father Amir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. Sheikh Hamad served as Emir of Qatar from 1995 to 2013 and was recognized as a distinguished visionary leader who significantly contributed to the development of modern Qatar.

His leadership left an indelible mark on the nation and the wider region. The Nigerian government, represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, conveyed sincere condolences to the current Amir of Qatar, High Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the Al Thani family, as well as to the brotherly people of Qatar.

Nigeria expressed solidarity with Qatar during this time of grief and prayed for the Almighty God to grant the late Father Amir eternal rest in paradise, while also offering patience and solace to the Qatari people and family during this difficult time.
