Nigerian Golfers Shine at World Schools Games Championship

Five young Nigerian golfers represented the country at the World Schools Games Golf Championship held from September 14 to 16 in St Andrews, Scotland. Toluwalashe Balogun of Lagoon Schools, Lekki, achieved notable success by finishing as the runner-up in the Junior Girls category.

Tiaraoluwa Ahmadu from St. Saviour’s School, Ikoyi, also performed well, placing in the top five. In the Junior Boys category, Mayomile Orungbeja of St. Gregory’s College secured a position in the top 10.

The team included Fireyimi Aina of Lagos Preparatory School, Ikoyi, and Melvin Strasser of Meadow Hall School, Lekki. Team Coordinator Oluseyi Badmos of 2AT Limited emphasized the importance of international exposure for young athletes, stating that such opportunities help them compete, learn, and build confidence.

He acknowledged the Lagos State Government and the State Universal Basic Education Board for their support in introducing golf to primary school pupils. Badmos stressed the need for collaboration among various stakeholders to enhance access to golf for talented young Nigerians.
