Nigeria Golf Federation Announces 2027 Open Tournament Return

The Nigeria Open Golf Tournament will return in November 2027 after a 28-year absence, as announced by the Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF). The tournament is scheduled for November 16 to 20, 2027, and was last held in 1999.

Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, President of the NGF, stated that the federation has been preparing to meet international standards and reposition Nigerian golf. The tournament will feature participation from over 20 countries and is expected to attract between 150 and 200 golfers.

The NGF is considering Lakowe Golf Resort in Lagos as a potential venue. The event will be a 64-hole, four-day Pro-Am tournament with world ranking status.

Runsewe emphasized the importance of youth development and announced plans for a coaching education program for golf professionals. The federation has engaged consultancy and marketing firms for sponsorship and promotion, with announcements expected soon.

Runsewe noted that the return of the tournament was deliberately delayed to ensure the capacity for a sustainable event.
