Nigeria to Host 2026 Commonwealth Fencing Championships

Nigeria has been awarded the rights to host the 2026 Commonwealth Fencing Championships, scheduled to take place in Lagos from August 9 to 14. This event will be historic as it will be the first time a Sub-Saharan nation hosts the tournament.

The announcement was made by Adeyinka Samuel of the Nigeria Fencing Federation, who emphasized the significance of this championship as a platform for showcasing African hospitality and culture. The event will also serve as an opportunity for technical exchange through international training camps, with 24 Commonwealth nations already registered to participate.

The Rugby School Nigeria has been selected as the venue due to its modern facilities and proximity to hospitality and entertainment hubs. Samuel noted the importance of private sector support, particularly from Flour Mill Nigeria, while calling for greater government involvement to ensure the successful delivery of this milestone event.
