Nigerian Cristian Soporuchukwu Denied Bail for Drug Charges

Cristian Soporuchukwu, a 44-year-old Nigerian, has been denied bail by the Karnataka High Court in India as he faces charges related to drug trafficking. Soporuchukwu entered India on a business visa and was arrested in April 2025 for allegedly selling MDMA crystal near Begur Lake, AEC Layout Road.

The Anti-Narcotics Wing seized 1 kg of MDMA crystal, a weighing machine, 10 zip-lock covers, a mobile phone, and a scooter during his arrest. Justice V.

Srishananda dismissed Soporuchukwu's bail application, stating that the grounds for his arrest were serious and related to drug offenses under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The court noted that Soporuchukwu was in India on an overstayed visa.

His case adds to the growing number of Nigerians facing arrest and prosecution in India for drug-related offenses.
