Justice Yunusa of Federal High Court Dies Suddenly

Justice Yunusa of the Federal High Court in Abuja passed away after collapsing in the courtroom and was pronounced dead by medical personnel on duty. His burial is set for Friday, following Islamic rites.

Justice Yunusa was recognized for his significant contributions to the judiciary, particularly in handling high-profile cases. Notably, he presided over a case related to the aftermath of the 2023 general elections, where he ruled on the candidacy of Abia Governor-elect Alex Otti.

The court denied the nullification of Otti's candidacy, stating that it lacked jurisdiction to issue a certificate of return. The Labour Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were involved in the case, which arose when Ibrahim Haruna Ibrahim filed an application seeking to revoke the certificate of return issued to the Labour Party candidate declared the winner in Kano State.
