Federal High Court Judge Mohammed Nasir Yunusa Dies

Federal High Court Judge Mohammed Nasir Yunusa has been confirmed dead after he collapsed at his residence. Medical personnel on duty rushed him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The burial is set for Friday, following Islamic rites. Judge Yunusa was known for handling high-profile cases, including those related to the 2023 general elections.

He was involved in significant legal matters, such as a case concerning the Labour Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), where he ruled that certain plaintiffs lacked the legal standing to challenge the issuance of a certificate of return. His decisions were noted for their adherence to jurisdictional limits, as he stated that the court lacked jurisdiction to grant relief in the matter.

The news of his passing was confirmed by Catherine Obi Christoph, the Director of Information at the Federal High Court of Nigeria.
