NCC Launches USSD Code for Device Verification in Nigeria

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has introduced a quick-dial code (*315#) and an online portal for Nigerians to verify the approval status of their mobile phones, tablets, modems, and other SIM-enabled devices for use on local telecommunications networks. Edoyemi Ogoh, the Director of Technical Standards and Network Integrity at the NCC, announced this development during a media briefing on October 13.
The verification framework became effective on October 7, with approximately 231 million telecommunications devices already registered under the NCC's Device Management System (DMS). Users can check their devices using the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number.
Devices connected to Nigerian networks before the system's implementation will not face disconnection. The NCC clarified that devices purchased locally do not require additional action from owners.
The commission is collaborating with manufacturers and importers to ensure proper authentication of devices entering Nigeria. The DMS does not access personal data on devices, and consumers with unverified devices are advised to contact their sellers or mobile service providers.
