Prof. Egbuna to Receive 2025 AMTI Academic Award

Prof. Ngozi Eunic Egbuna, a lead economist and former director of the West African Monetary Institute (WAMI), has been selected to receive the 2025 Academic of the Year Award from the African Monetary Institute (AMTI).

This recognition is awarded for her significant contributions to economic research and regional integration. Prof.

Egbuna is currently the director of the International Centre for Regional Trade Research at Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Nigeria, and is noted as Nigeria's first World Trade Organization (WTO) Chair. The award will be presented on July 18, 2026, during the fifth edition of the AMTI award ceremony in Awka, Anambra State.

The announcement was made in a letter signed by Rev. Sr.

Prof. Eugenia Adaoma Igwedibia, chairman of the planning committee, and Dr.

Emeka Odogwu, who described Egbuna as a trailblazer and role model in academia. Her career includes over three decades of experience in monetary policy and regional economic integration.
