NITT Partners to Train Women as Professional Drivers

The Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Workbridge Empowerment Foundation to train, certify, and create sustainable employment opportunities for women as professional drivers across Nigeria. This partnership is being implemented in collaboration with the Women Drive Nigeria Initiative.

NITT will provide professional driver training and certification, while Workbridge Empowerment Foundation will recruit participants. Currently, over 100 women have enrolled in the pilot phase.

Dr Bayero Farah, the Director-General/Chief Executive of NITT, described the partnership as a significant step towards reducing the gender gap in the transport sector by equipping women with professional driving skills. He emphasized that professional drivers should also be knowledgeable in managing road incidents.

Abdullahi Umar signed the agreement for Workbridge Empowerment Foundation, while Dr Farah signed for NITT, assisted by Registrar Maina Tarfa. The partnership aims to develop a skilled and safety-conscious driving workforce through comprehensive training and certification programs.
