NLC Condemns Blockade of Peter Obi's Convoy in Benue

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) condemned the blockade of Peter Obi's convoy in Yelwata, Benue State, where he sought to pay tribute to victims of a past massacre and commiserate with affected families. NLC spokesperson Comrade Benson Upah expressed alarm over the growing political intolerance and violence in Nigeria, which he stated threatens the country's multi-party democracy.

Upah criticized the rising cases of political violence and intolerance towards alternative political views, asserting that such behavior is "unhelpful, unnecessary and unacceptable." He urged political actors and their supporters to engage peacefully and focus on issues rather than partisan hostility. The NLC's reaction is particularly significant as it comes amid heightened political activities leading up to the 2027 general elections.

Yelwata has previously experienced deadly attacks, making it a focal point in discussions about insecurity and the plight of violence victims. Upah emphasized that political differences should not lead to violence or suppression of opposing viewpoints.
