NLO Investigates Alleged Match-Fixing in Playoff Fixture

The Nigeria Nationwide League (NLO) has initiated a full-scale investigation into alleged match-fixing involving Flight FC from Benue State and Junior Mighty Jets from Plateau State. This follows a controversial playoff fixture held at Lafia Township Stadium that concluded with a scoreline of 9-3, raising significant concerns about the integrity of the match.

A preliminary review by the NLO's investigation team highlighted suspicious conduct and performance records throughout the season, indicating potential match compromise. As part of the disciplinary process, the league has suspended the results of the match pending the investigation's conclusion.

The technical staff and captains of both teams are expected to appear before the NLO's integrity unit disciplinary committee on July 8, 2026. The NLO has warned that evidence of match manipulation could lead to severe sanctions, including expulsion from the league and long-term bans for players and officials found culpable.

Additionally, Bida Lion FC has formally petitioned the league regarding the outcome of the final round match, citing concerns over the scheduling of matches.
