NNPC Denies Ownership of Drug-Related Fuel Truck

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has denied ownership of a fuel truck intercepted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Ondo, which was found to be carrying 2,145kg of cannabis concealed inside a compartment. The truck, registered as MKA 960 XC, bore an old logo that did not match NNPC's current corporate identity.

On Monday, September 7, 2026, NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, stated that preliminary checks indicated the vehicle was neither owned by NNPC nor part of its official fleet or that of any authorized dealer. NNPC is engaging the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) to investigate the unauthorized use of its branding.

The company expressed concern over the implications of its corporate identity being linked to criminal activities and is cooperating with security agencies to determine the vehicle's ownership and circumstances. NNPC is also reviewing its brand-protection and asset-monitoring procedures and may consider legal action if necessary.
