APC Members Resign Amid Allegations of Election Irregularities

Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are resigning and defecting to other political parties due to dissatisfaction with the party's primary election processes. Former Inspector General of Police Mohd Adamu Abubakar resigned from APC on May 21, 2026, joining the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and forming the "Adamu 2027 Movement" to contest the governorship in Nasarawa State.

His resignation followed allegations of compromised primary elections that did not reflect the actual votes. Additionally, Mustapha Bala Dawaki, former chief of staff to the APC national chairman, defected to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano, while Shehu Buba Umar and Samaila Kaila Dahuwa resigned from APC to join the People's Redemption Party (PRP).

The defections highlight growing discontent within APC regarding transparency and adherence to democratic principles in the electoral process.
