Issa-Onilu Prepares for Kwara Governorship Race in 2027

Issa-Onilu, the Director General of the National Orientation Agency, is reportedly preparing to join the Kwara State governorship race ahead of the 2027 elections. Although he has not yet formally declared his intention, sources indicate he is actively engaging in consultations with key stakeholders across the state.

The Independent National Electoral Commission is expected to conduct primaries for various elective offices between April 23 and May 30, 2026. Several prominent figures within the All Progressives Congress (APC) are also eyeing the governorship seat, including Senator Lola Ashiru, Saliu Mustapha, Suleiman Sodiq, and Lateef Fagbemi, the Attorney General of the Federation.

Political stakeholders in Kwara are reportedly favoring Issa-Onilu as a unifying figure capable of connecting different political factions. He has a solid understanding of the political landscape and an extensive network, which could strengthen his chances in the APC governorship primaries.

Issa-Onilu was appointed as the Director General of the National Orientation Agency in October 2023.
