Adunni Ade Wins ₦30 Million Judgment Against Google

Nollywood actress Adunni Ade secured a ₦30 million judgment against Google LLC in the Lagos High Court on July 9, 2025. The case stemmed from two stories published on Google and YouTube that linked her to former senator Dino Melaye, with one story alleging he used a fake Patek watch to woo her.

Adunni Ade, whose legal name is Adunni Adewal, argued that the continued publication of these stories violated her constitutional right to privacy under Section 37 of Nigeria's 1999 Constitution and breached the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. The court found that Google failed to ensure the accuracy of the information regarding her.

Notably, Google did not respond to court proceedings despite being served an electronic court order in December 2024. The actress initially sought ₦100 million in damages but settled for ₦30 million, along with an order for Google to delete the stories and issue a formal apology.
