Black Market" Breaks Attendance Record at Lagos Premiere

On September 26, 2026, Nollywood's crime thriller "Black Market" set a Guinness World Record for the most-attended single-location film screening, with over 51,000 moviegoers at its premiere at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos. This event surpassed the previous record of 43,624 attendees held by the Filipino film "Felix Manalo" since 2015.

The premiere attracted various political dignitaries, including Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat and Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture Toke Benson, alongside the film's cast, which featured Lateef Adedimeji, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, Scarlet Gomez, Omowunmi Dada, and others. "Black Market," directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay in her feature directorial debut and co-written with Abdul Tijani-Ahmed, focuses on market women involved in a cross-border fuel-smuggling operation. The film was produced by Nora Awolowo through Rixel Studios, in collaboration with Signet Ring Studios, Switch Visuals Production, and FilmOne Studios.

Following this historic premiere, "Black Market" is set for a nationwide theatrical release.
