Global Rights Hosts CSO Dialogue on New Tax Compliance

Global Rights, in partnership with the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) and the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA), convened a dialogue with civil society organizations (CSOs) in Nigeria to address the implications of a newly enacted tax act. Noya Sedi, a program manager at Global Rights, highlighted that many individuals are unaware of the new tax law, necessitating government efforts to sensitize the public, particularly CSOs, to avoid defaulting on tax regulations.

The dialogue aimed to strengthen civil society organizations' understanding of the new tax act, which has caused confusion since its enactment. Sedi emphasized the importance of compliance to prevent regulatory bodies from shutting down or suspending CSO activities.

The conversation focused on the risks associated with non-compliance and the need for CSOs to adapt to changing laws to maintain their operational resilience.
