NUJ Calls for Issue-Based Campaigns Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sokoto State Council, called on political actors to prioritize campaigns centered on policies and programs that address citizens' challenges as the 2027 general elections approach. This appeal was made in a communiqué following a congress held at the NUJ Press Centre, Zuru Road, Sokoto, signed by Chairman Comrade Usman Mohammed Binji and Secretary Muhammad Nasir Bello.

The council urged political figures to avoid inflammatory rhetoric and personal attacks, advocating for issue-based campaigns. Additionally, journalists were reminded to uphold professionalism, accuracy, and independence in their coverage of political activities.

The congress also expressed concern over the security of media practitioners and called for enhanced protective measures from governments. Furthermore, the NUJ highlighted the importance of supporting vulnerable groups affected by insecurity and emphasized the need for public health awareness regarding diphtheria, urging journalists to verify health-related information before publication.
