Obasa Shifts Focus as Tinubu Backs Hamzat for Governor

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Obasa, has made a strategic decision to pursue a House of Representatives seat in the Agege Federal Constituency as the political landscape shifts ahead of the 2027 general elections. This move comes as President Bola Tinubu and the Governor's Advisory Council (GAC) have reportedly settled on Obafemi Hamzat, the current Deputy Governor, as their preferred candidate for the Lagos governorship.

Obasa's decision to refocus his ambitions follows intensified political consultations aimed at reviving the mandate group and the political structure associated with the outgoing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Additionally, Obasa's plans to challenge the incumbent Senator Idiat Adebul for the Lagos West senatorial district have faced resistance from the APC's national leadership, particularly from the women's wing, which is advocating for Adebul's retention due to her significance in gender representation within the South West geopolitical zone.
