Nigerian Politician Criticizes Individuals as Nigeria Faces Challenges; Late Economist Honored in Oyo State

Nigerian politician Obi, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), identified specific individuals as the problem plaguing Nigeria during a speech at a thanksgiving service in Oyo State on February 1, 2026. He urged Nigerians to pray for the country and called for support for Governor Makinde's infrastructure development efforts.

The state recognized the late Prof. Ojetunji Aboyade, a distinguished economist, and his daughter Olufunke Aboyade for their significant contributions to Oyo State's growth and development.

The state government announced the nomination and award presentation to the Aboyades at the Oyo State 50th-anniversary celebration, scheduled for February 3, 2026. Additionally, a devastating fire broke out at Moniya Market in the Akinyele Local Government Area, destroying goods worth millions of naira.
