Police Officers Demand Review of Promotion Timeline

Officers of the Nigeria Police Force have formally requested a review of their promotion timeline, addressing their concerns to the Inspector General of Police and the Police Service Commission. The officers, who were confirmed as inspectors in 2020, argue that their promotion to Assistant Superintendent II is unfairly scheduled for January 2026, rather than the expected date of 2024.

They fear victimization for speaking out and have described the current promotion timeline as detrimental to their career progression. The officers urge the authorities to backdate their promotions to 2024, aligning with when their colleagues were due for promotion.

They emphasize the need for a review of the promotion process to reflect actual years of service and qualifications, including examinations and interviews. The Police Service Commission, represented by spokesperson Torti Njoku Kalu, stated that they were unaware of the officers' complaints but assured that valid grievances would be addressed through appropriate channels.
