Ogun Businessman Azeez Seeks Review of Assault Case Charges

Ashiru Azeez, a businessman from Ogun State, has filed a petition with the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade, requesting a review of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions’ (DPP) legal advice regarding a case of assault and theft. Azeez's petition, submitted by his counsel Ayodeji Ifonlaja, follows an earlier petition to the Ministry of Justice on April 16, 2026.

The DPP's legal advice, dated February 24, 2026, acknowledged that Azeez and other victims were violently attacked and robbed by suspects armed with dangerous weapons. However, many serious charges initially recommended by the police were dropped, leaving only assault-related allegations.

Azeez recounted that he found his family attacked during a meeting in Sagamu and that only one of the eight arrested suspects was arraigned. The family had previously petitioned the DPP to take over the case after attempts to negotiate a withdrawal of the case were made.
