Ogun Imams Reject Governor's School Missionary Plan

Imams in Ogun State, led by Imam Tajudeen Mustafa Adewunmi, have publicly rejected Governor Dapo Abiodun's proposal to return public schools to their original missionary owners. Announced during a meeting with Archbishop Michael Francis Crotti, the plan aims to strengthen partnerships in the education sector.

However, the League of Imams criticized the initiative as a misreading of history and a potential threat to the principles of equity and justice in a diverse society. They argue that such a move could deepen distrust and destabilize the fragile harmony within the state.

The imams demand the immediate and unconditional abandonment of the policy, warning that any attempt to proceed without proper consultation would face strong resistance from the Muslim community. They emphasized the need for inclusivity in governance and expressed concern over the prioritization of specific religious interests over the rights of all citizens in Ogun State.
