Gas Leak at Ogun School Hospitalizes Students and Staff

On Wednesday, a gas leak at Ladi Apostles Secondary School in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, resulted in scores of students and staff requiring medical attention. Victims exhibited symptoms such as difficulty breathing and weakness, prompting their rush to a general hospital for treatment.

This incident is the third reported case of a mysterious gas leak in the area within two months, raising significant health concerns among residents. The first incident in April reportedly left 40 students hospitalized, while a second leak in May affected 100 students.

Ogun State's Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, stated that monitoring equipment has been installed in the area to detect methane gas emissions. The latest leak occurred during school hours when a strong offensive odor was noticed, causing panic among students and staff.

John Eko, a national coordinator for a farmers' rights campaign, urged Governor Dapo Abiodun to ensure a lasting solution to prevent further occurrences and address the potential long-term health effects of gas exposure.
