Okechukwu Suspends Film Premiere to Honor Late Cast Members

Joseph Okechukwu held an exclusive screening of his film 'Properties of the Gods' at The Jewel Aeida in Lekki, Lagos, on a Tuesday. During the event, he announced the suspension of the film's planned premiere to honor deceased cast members Onyeka Onwenu and Cynthia Okereke, as well as support the recovery of Zack Orji, who recently underwent brain surgery.

Okechukwu stated that the budget for the premiere would be redirected to assist the families of the late artists. Instead of a traditional premiere, the film will be screened in the palaces of various Igbo traditional rulers across multiple states.

The film is set to open in cinemas on September 4, 2026, which will also be designated as "Onyeka Onwenu Day." A night of tributes for Onwenu is planned for September 3. Okechukwu's film addresses the Osu caste system in Igboland, which he views as divisive.
