Okoye Condemns Attack on Obi and Political Leaders in Edo

High Chief Godson Okoye, a former presidential candidate and current member of the Board of Trustees of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), condemned the recent assassination attempt on Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, and other political figures in Edo State. The attack occurred on Tuesday when unidentified gunmen targeted the residence of Chief John Odigie Oyegun, the ADC national leader, during a visit from Olumide Akpata, a former gubernatorial candidate.

Okoye described the violence as a threat to democracy and called for the new Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, to prosecute those responsible. He also urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure free political participation and protect the rights of individuals to move and associate freely.

Okoye warned that the current violence could lead to chaos and undermine democracy as the 2027 general elections approach.
