Oluremi Tinubu Launches Food Bank Initiative in Anambra

On September 10, 2023, Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria and a Senator, spoke at the launch of the National Community Food Bank in Awka, Anambra, where she recounted her positive experiences with the Igbo people from her childhood and educational years. She described Igbos as "very nice people" and shared that her best friend in secondary school was an Igbo girl.

The food bank initiative aims to address food insecurity and improve access to affordable food for vulnerable households across Nigeria. Tinubu noted that this project reflects President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring that no Nigerian goes hungry, regardless of their region or background.

She urged South-East governors, traditional rulers, and community leaders to support the initiative to ensure it reaches those most in need. The launch is part of a nationwide effort by the Office of the First Lady to establish community food banks in all six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.
