APC Intervenes to Halt Ondo Assembly Speaker's Impeachment

The impeachment move against Hon Olamide Oladiji, the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, has been temporarily stalled as the All Progressives Congress (APC) intervenes to resolve the ongoing crisis within the legislature. Following a meeting last Friday, the APC leadership urged the involved lawmakers to maintain the status quo while mediation efforts are underway, particularly as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.

The lawmakers initially began the impeachment process with 21 out of 26 members signing a notice for Oladiji's resignation, a number that later increased to 24, indicating significant opposition. The allegations against Oladiji include financial misconduct related to a N44 million transaction concerning the reordering of the 2026 budget for the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), which he denies, claiming the impeachment is politically motivated.

The APC's intervention aims to prevent further escalation of the conflict while allowing for potential resolution of the grievances.
