Ondo Diocese Changes Easter Vigil Time Amid Security Fears

The Catholic Diocese of Ondo has announced a change in the schedule for this year's Easter Vigil, moving the service to commence at 5:00 PM on March 30, 2026. This decision was made in response to increasing security concerns across Nigeria, as highlighted in a statement signed by Chancellor Rev. Fr. Michael O.

Eniayeju. The directive was issued by Bishop Rev. Jude Arogundad, emphasizing the need for pastoral prudence in light of the heightened insecurity in the country.

The diocese reaffirmed its commitment to the Christian faith and the celebration of the resurrection of the Lord during the Easter Vigil. The statement also called for enhanced safety measures to protect parish communities and urged congregants to maintain prayers for peace.

This adjustment follows a recent advisory from the Nigeria Police Force, which recommended the suspension of night services due to security threats, including the kidnapping of church members in Ondo State.
