Ondo State Approves $1.6M Hydropower and Gas Plant

The Ondo State Executive Council (EXCO) approved a $1.6 million Small Hydropower Project at the Owena Dam and a 7.5-megawatt gas-fired turbine to supply electricity to government facilities. The decisions were made during a meeting on Tuesday, presided over by Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.

The hydropower project, which will have a capacity of 350 kilowatts, will be funded through a UNIDO grant, with the state government contributing 30 percent. Engr.

Johnson Alabi, the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, stated that the gas-fired turbine would be located at the Alagbaka Commissioners’ Quarters and aims to eliminate reliance on external power sources. The project is expected to be completed within five months.

Additionally, the council ratified 21 infrastructure projects across local government areas and confirmed the appointments of Prince Adewale Fatusin Richard as the new Onisupare of Supare-Akoko and Prince Tayo Ajisegiri as the new Olujigba of Ijigba.
