Police Rescue 11 Abducted Travellers in Zamfara Attack

On July 21, 2026, at approximately 10:30 a.m., the Zamfara State Police Command reported a bandit attack on a trailer transporting vegetables and passengers along the Gummi–Sokoto Road. During the ambush, the gunmen opened fire, causing the driver to lose control, resulting in the death of one passenger, identified as Dan Fati Umar from Gidan Ganja in Bukuyum Local Government Area.

Another passenger sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment. Following a prompt response from police operatives and other security personnel, 11 kidnapped victims were successfully rescued and have been reunited with their families.

The Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Muhammad Bello, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery, reaffirming the command's commitment to protecting lives and property. This incident occurred amid intensified military operations against terrorists in the North-West region.
