Opposition Criticizes Edo Governor Over London Trip

Opposition political parties in Edo State condemned Governor Monday Okpebholo's trip to London, calling it a "jamboree" due to the number of officials accompanying him. The governor's trip aimed to engage Edo indigenes in the Diaspora to encourage investment in the state.

Critics pointed out that a previous trip to Glasgow, Scotland, last year did not produce tangible results, with claims of a $250 million investment deal being labeled as an "audio investment." Christopher Ojeikere, spokesman for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), expressed disappointment over the lack of outcomes from past trips, emphasizing that the governor should focus on local solutions to the state's problems. Dr Samson Isibor, National Coordinator of the Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP), echoed these sentiments, describing the London trip as wasteful.

In defense, Prince Kassim Afegbua, the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, stated that over 90% of the attendees self-sponsored their trip and dismissed claims of excessive costs.
