Accord Calls for International Intervention in Osun State

The ruling party in Osun State, Accord, has requested intervention from the African Union, United Nations, European Union, United States, and British governments regarding the escalating security situation in the state ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election. Dele Oladeji, Secretary of the South-West Forum of Accord and Lagos State Chairman, stated that there has been a notable increase in politically motivated violence, arrests, and intimidation that threaten the electoral process.

He reported that attacks on Accord members and officials of the Osun State Government have resulted in fatalities, including the death of a 14-year-old boy. Oladeji criticized security agencies for their inaction and alleged that some suspects remain protected by armed police.

He also expressed concern over the politically motivated arrest of Teslim Igbalaye, the Secretary to the Osun State Government, on July 29, 2023, for alleged vote-buying, which he claims is part of a broader pattern of using security forces against political actors.
