Tensions Rise at Osun Stakeholders’ Forum Amid Booing

At a stakeholders’ forum in Osogbo, Osun State, convened by the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof Joash Amupitan, tensions escalated between members of the Accord and the All Progressives Congress (APC). During the event, Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan was booed by Accord members while delivering a speech urging peaceful conduct among political actors.

APC representative Kehinde Ayantunji condemned the booing, claiming it disrupted civic engagement and urged INEC to ensure a secure and credible election process. He accused the Accord of sponsoring hoodlums to destabilize the electoral process and raised concerns about voting hours, referencing past incidents where voting extended late into the night.

Bamidele Salam, representing the Governor Ademola Adeleke Campaign Council, expressed concerns over the logistics of election materials, suggesting that drivers from a faction of the National Union of Road Transport Workers affiliated with the APC should not be involved in transporting these materials.
