Osun Community Bans Political Activities at Eid Grounds

The Osun community has implemented a ban on political activities at Eid praying grounds in Osogbo, as announced on a state radio station and circulated on social media. This decision was made during a stakeholders' meeting that included the Chief Imam of Osogbo, security agencies, and political party representatives.

The ban prohibits Muslim attendees from wearing clothing that bears political party emblems, displaying political posters, or engaging in political discussions at the prayer grounds. The presence of drummers at the prayer grounds has also been banned.

This action follows previous incidents, including a clash during the Eid el Kabir prayer on June 28, 2023, involving Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and former Senate spokesperson Ajibola Basiru, which highlighted the need for maintaining order during large gatherings, especially when Eid prayers coincide with election periods.
