Osun CSOs Demand Clarity on Adeleke's Power Transfer

The Civil Society Coalition has raised concerns regarding the exercise of executive authority in Osun State during Governor Ademola Adeleke's vacation in Europe. In a statement issued in Osogbo, the coalition questioned whether Adeleke formally transmitted the powers of his office to his deputy before his departure.

They emphasized the need for clarity to avoid a constitutional vacuum, referencing Section 190(1) of the 1999 Constitution, which mandates that a governor must inform the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Adewale Olumide Egbedun, when proceeding on vacation.

The coalition, led by Chairman Dr. Waheed Lawal and Secretary Olowu Emmanuel, demanded confirmation of whether such a declaration was made and, if so, the date it was transmitted. They have given the government 48 hours to fulfill this constitutional requirement, asserting that their concerns are about constitutional compliance and not politically motivated.
