DIG Mohammed to Lead Security for Osun Elections

The Nigeria Police Force has announced the deployment of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mohammed to oversee security operations for the elections in Osun State. This initiative aims to ensure a peaceful, secure, and credible electoral process.

According to a statement from the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Inieddu, DIG Mohammed will coordinate the police's role in the election security arrangement, collaborating with other security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES). He will be supported by Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Commissioners of Police assigned to Osun’s three senatorial districts.

Their responsibilities include supervising operations, enhancing intelligence-led policing, and responding to security threats. The police have implemented measures to protect voters, INEC personnel, election materials, polling units, and media practitioners.

The Inspector General of Police has warned against electoral offences, stating that violators will face arrest and prosecution. Additionally, armed escorts and unauthorized security personnel are prohibited from accompanying political figures on election day.
