Nigeria Police Deploys 10,000 Personnel for Osun Election

In preparation for the governorship election scheduled for Saturday in Osun State, the Nigeria Police Force has announced the deployment of 10,000 police personnel to ensure a free and fair poll. During a press briefing on Tuesday, CSP Anietie Okokon Iniedu, the Force Public Relations Officer, reassured residents that adequate security measures are in place to facilitate a conducive environment for registered voters.

The deployment is under the supervision of a Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) and includes the reassignment of an Election Commissioner to the state. IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu confirmed that the police officers have been adequately trained and will adhere strictly to the rules of engagement.

Additionally, the Nigeria Police Force is developing a comprehensive roadmap for managing security during elections, aimed at strengthening the security framework ahead of the 2027 General Elections. The upcoming Sixth Edition of the Retreat for Senior Officers, scheduled for September 21 to 23, 2026, in Owerri, Imo State, will focus on strategies to address emerging security challenges related to elections.
