Tinubu Calls for Security and Credibility in Osun Election

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure that the Osun State governorship election on August 15, 2026, is peaceful, transparent, free, and fair. He instructed security agencies to prevent disruptions and protect voters and election officials from intimidation.

The election features fifteen candidates, including incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, All Progressives Congress candidate Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, and African Democratic Congress flagbearer Najeem Salaam. In a statement from his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu emphasized the importance of the election as a test for INEC's readiness for the 2027 general elections.

He assured that adequate security measures would be in place before, during, and after the election, encouraging residents to vote confidently for their preferred candidates. Tinubu stated that the election results must reflect the people's will.
