Osun Residents Loot Global Food Initiative Warehouse

In Osun State, customers of Global Food Initiative expressed their anger by looting the company's warehouse after the operators disappeared, leaving them without the food items they had prepaid for. Videos showed a crowd removing bags of rice, groundnut oil, and other items from the warehouse.

This incident followed a gathering of hundreds of customers who demanded either their purchased goods or refunds. The scheme, which started about three weeks prior, offered discounted food items, including a 50kg bag of rice for N27,000 and 25 litres of vegetable oil for N30,000, requiring customers to pay in advance and return after seven days for collection.

Some customers reported paying significant amounts, with one woman stating she paid N300,000 for 11 bags of rice and another claiming to have spent N1.2 million for items for a wedding. The Osun State Police Command, represented by spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi, dispatched officers to the scene to prevent further unrest, noting that no formal reports had been made at that time.
