Osogbo Residents Lose Millions to Disappearing Food Scheme

On Monday, residents of Osogbo, Osun State, experienced significant tension due to the disappearance of operators from the Global Food Initiative, a cheap food initiative. Many residents had deposited substantial amounts for food items, anticipating delivery within a week.

Mistura reported depositing N300,000 for 11 bags of rice, which would have cost N605,000 at market prices. Olamide shared that she paid N1.2 million for food items for her stepdaughter's wedding, having previously received two gallons of groundnut oil.

Panic ensued after a local radio presenter warned against the scheme, leading to a large crowd gathering at the operators' office. Witnesses claimed the operators fled upon seeing the crowd.

Some investors reported deposits as high as N35 million and N10 million. Police were deployed to prevent potential violence as residents awaited the return of the operators.
