ALGON Suspends Transport Unions in Osun Over Violence

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has announced the suspension of all transport unions in Osun State, effective immediately, due to escalating violence associated with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). This decision was communicated during a press conference by Hon.

Abiodun Idowu, the ALGON state chairman, and Olanrewaju Balogun, the vice chairman. The suspension affects public motor parks, including motorcycle (okada) and tricycle (keke) unions, as ALGON urged the Nigeria Police Force to take immediate action to prevent a total breakdown of law and order.

The situation has deteriorated, with increasing violence in motor parks, leading to tragic incidents, including the killing of a toddler and an elderly man. Governor Ademola Adeleke has been criticized for his perceived inability to address the crisis effectively, with public confidence in the transport system waning as motor parks become unsafe and associated with criminal activities.
