Osun State Forms Committee for Election Violence Victims

The Osun State Government has formed a Committee on Election Violence Victims to address claims from individuals impacted by election-related violence and to oversee the distribution of the ₦500 million Election Violence Victims Relief Endowment Fund. This initiative, announced by Governor Ademola Adeleke through his spokesperson Olawale Rasheed, aims to ensure that authentic victims receive necessary support.

The committee is chaired by Adewale Olumide Egbedun, the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, and includes members such as Eniola Omotoso, Emmanuel Olowu (representing civil society), Alhaja Balkiss Akinleye, and a nominee from the Nigeria Police Force. Other members include Moshood Suleiman from the Ministry of Information, Moses Faremi from the Ministry of Justice, and a nominee from the Department of State Services, with Sola Sonibare serving as the committee's secretary.

The committee is tasked with verifying claims and determining eligibility for relief, ensuring that the fund is administered transparently and fairly to assist those who suffered losses or hardships due to election violence.
