Osun State Forms Committee for Election Violence Relief

On Monday, the Osun State Government announced the formation of a 10-member committee tasked with verifying claims made by victims of election-related violence. The committee, chaired by Rt Hon Adewale Olumide Egbedun, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, will also determine the beneficiaries of a N500 million relief fund.

It includes representatives from civil society, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and various ministries, with Mr Sola Sonibare, the Executive Secretary of the Osun Investment Promotion Agency, serving as secretary. The committee is responsible for receiving petitions and evidence from individuals who have suffered losses, injuries, or displacement due to election violence.

It will assess the eligibility of claimants and recommend appropriate relief packages based on guidelines set by the state government. This initiative aligns with Governor Ademola Adeleke’s commitment to support residents affected by election-related violence, ensuring that the relief fund is administered transparently and fairly.
