Accord Party Demands Release of Commissioner Adejoorin

Hon. Mayowa Adejoorin, the State Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation in Osun State, was arrested by the Osun State Police Command, prompting protests from the Accord Party.

The party characterized the arrest as a “bandit-like abduction” intended to undermine opposition ahead of the August 15 governorship election. Adejoorin, a key Accord leader from Ikiyinwa in Obokun Local Government Area, was taken into custody under circumstances deemed “disturbing” and politically motivated.

Barrister Pelumi Olajengbesi, spokesperson for the Imole Campaign Council, stated that the arrest is part of a broader pattern of intimidation against Accord leaders in Ijesaland. The Campaign Council has called for an investigation into the police's actions and demanded the immediate release of Adejoorin, questioning the legitimacy of his arrest.

They warned that such actions could facilitate electoral manipulation and urged monitoring by INEC and civil society organizations.
