Osun PDP and ALGON Condemn APC Chairmen's Protest

The Osun State chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) issued a statement condemning the All Progressives Congress (APC) council chairmen for a protest held on Wednesday at the Osun State High Court in Osogbo. The protest was in response to ongoing legal proceedings involving local government allocations linked to a commercial bank.

PDP and ALGON criticized the APC chairmen for allegedly disrespecting court orders and undermining the judiciary. The protest was described as inappropriate and motivated by a desire to maintain control over local government administration beyond their tenures, which are set to expire in October 2025.

The statement, signed by ALGON Chairman Sarafa Awotund and Secretary Lukman Afolabi, emphasized the need for adherence to legal processes rather than protests that could invite anarchy. The ongoing dispute stems from the local government elections held in October 2022, with the next elections scheduled for February 2025.
