Osun Warns Police Against APC Chairmen's Vehicle Donations

The Osun State government issued a warning to the Nigeria Police Force on Friday, cautioning against the acceptance of vehicles from local government chairmen elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC). The government described these donations as "poisoned gifts," suggesting they carry hidden motives and could harm the integrity of the police.

Kolapo Alimi, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, emphasized that the current control of local government councils lacks legitimate mandate, as the individuals claiming to be council chairmen from the APC do not have legal backing, with their tenure disputed in court. The APC had announced plans for its council chairmen to donate operational vehicles to the police to enhance security efforts in the state.

However, the state government criticized this move, asserting that it politicizes security and could undermine public trust in the police. The ongoing legal battle regarding local government administration in Osun has persisted since the February 22, 2025 elections, which were conducted during the tenure of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.
