Edo APC Members Protest Against Candidate Imposition

Members of the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) staged a protest on Tuesday at the party's state secretariat in Benin. The protest was against the alleged imposition of a councillorship candidate for Ohuan Ward 9 in the Orhionmwon Local Government Area ahead of the upcoming local government elections.

The protest was led by Sundai Erhabor, who accused unnamed individuals of attempting to substitute a candidate's name despite the endorsement from the ward's leadership. The decision to endorse a candidate was reached on March 22, with the presence of aspirants, which surprised the ward leaders.

Erhabor stated that the leadership should respect the decision made by the ward executives and that any attempt to override this decision would not be accepted. The protesters carried placards demanding that the party leadership uphold internal democracy and respect decisions made at the ward level.

Sam Oboh, the state assistant secretary of the party, assured members that the leadership would investigate the matter and convene a meeting with stakeholders to address the complaints.
